HighEnd vs. Drugstore (Ep.5) Make Up For Ever vs. L'oreal Lip Palettes

You can definitely see the similarities between these two lipstick palettes. I do not know if L'oreal intentionally decided to create their La Lip Palette to be like Make Up For Ever's Artist Rouge Lip Palette, but I am glad that there is a drugstore alternative.

From the packaging alone, you can see the similarities right away. They both have five colors, all in red variations, and they both come with a small lip brush.

The Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lip Palette (#5, Reds) costs $39.00, and the L'oreal La Lip Palette (Ruby) costs $14.99. So that is quite a price different.

Here are the swatches. There are three very similar colors that can pass as dupes for each other.

They are both great lip palettes. Both are pigmented, and they both look great on the lips.
I do admit that the Make Up For Ever lip colors last a lot longer than the L'oreal Lip Colors. The L'oreal lip formula is a lot glossier, and they have a lot more shine than the Make Up For Ever ones. The Make Up For Ever Lip colors have more of a flat, solid look that reminds me of old Hollywood Glamour Red Lips.

I do wish Make Up For Ever's color range was a little more diverse, because three of them look suspiciously similar, while the L'oreal reds are distinctively different from each other. The great thing about Make Up For Ever's palette is that each color is refillable. You can pop them out and repurchase the color if you so choose to, or choose a different color to add to your palette. Every pan is an existing lipstick color in the Make Up For Ever line, which I think is such a great idea!
So each palette has their great and bad qualities, but more good than bad. If I have to choose one to use from here on out, I would choose the Make Up For Ever one because I like how it makes my lips look and it lasts a whole lot longer than the L'oreal Lip Palette.

Have you tried any of these two palettes yet? How do you like them? Let me know in the comments!
Happy Wandering! Alice
