Tutorial: "How to Widen Your Eyes" Kat Von D's Eye Technique Tips

Good afternoon everyone! Today I am here to share on how I widened the look of my eyes using instructions from the amazing Kat Von D.

All the shadows I used for this look is from

Step #1: Sweep "Base Shadow" All over the Eyelid & Blend.

There is not much to this step but to apply the base shadow all over your lids.

The Shadow I used is called "Ludwin", a peachy bronze Shadow.

Step #2: Add "Highlight" to the Center of the Lid & to the Brow bone.

This will bring out the high points of your eyes. The Highlight shade also adds more of a dimension to the flat peachy-bronze base shadow.

Highlight shadow is called, "Latinus", a golden bisque shadow.

Step #3: Apply "Contour" Shadow to the crease area. Focus on elongating the eye shape outward towards the temples.

This step takes the longest out of all of the steps because you need to be precise and a lot of blending is taken place here. First make sure your brush is a small blending brush that fits your crease line, and apply a tiny amount at the corner of your crease first, then blend along your crease line. Once you have applied the initial layer of color, add more if needed, and when you are ready, extend the shadow towards the end of your eyebrow, creating a cat-shape. And finally drag the shadow to the bottom lash line.

The Contour Shadow I used is called, "Succubus", a Rich Rust color from the Light + Shade contour palette.

Step#4: For Definition, concentrate the "Define" shadow to shape the outer corners of the upper & lower lash line, making sure to extend your eye shape horizontally.

This step is just lining you upper and lower lash line with the darkest shade in the quad. By creating a wing at the end of each eye, you are again creating an illusion of wider eyes because the focus will be drawn to the ends of your eyes.

The Define Shadow is called "Sytry", a Chocolate Brown" Color.

Step #5: Line the eyes and apply Mascara and the look is complete!

And those are the steps to Widen the look of your eyes!
It is actually a simple process, and you probably do this kind of look all the time, but it's nice to know what this technique really does for the eyes!

I hope this was helpful!
Happy Wandering! Alice
