High End v. Drugstore (Ep. 1): Anastasia Brow Wiz v. L'oreal Brow Stylist Definer

Welcome to the very first episode of High End v. Drugstore, where I will be comparing products from High End Brands to Drugstore Brands to see if they are similar to each other and which ones I would prefer to repurchase after trying them both out.

I have been extremely curious about the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz ever since its popularity blew up on the internet. So I finally got one around Christmas time, and the following month L'oreal came out with the Brow Sylist Definer. The moment I saw it at one of my local CVS drugstores, I was immediately reminded of the Brow Wiz because it looked so similar! I knew I had to put them both to the test and see if the Definer can be a dupe for the Brow Wiz.

And the final verdict is...there are some slight differences but you can not deny the similarities. The L'oreal Brow Stylist Definer ($8.99) is definitely comparable to the +AnastasiaBeverlyHills Brow Wiz ($21.00).

Physically ,both pencils have nearly the same dimensions and they both have a spoolie at the end. They also have similar coloring. The Anastasia Brow Wiz is on the warmer side, while L'oreal's Definer has a cool-tone bark color to it, but despite the slight differences, when applied to the brows, you can hardly see the difference (see pic, below).

Both of the brow products were able to create a soft, natural filled in brow look. The L'oreal Definer does have a bit of a waxier texture than the Anastasia Brow Wiz, which is a factor to why it also applies on more pigmented. This is a positive and a negative feature. The positive side is that it does a quicker job at filling in the brows; the negative is that if you accidentally apply a bit too harsh, it takes a while to buff out. While the Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil has a more harder formula and draws on the brow hairs lightly. It does takes more time to fill in the brows but it is a bit more forgiving if you accidentally draw out of your brow shape.

Overall all I enjoy both products. They both fill in my brows with natural ease. They also stay on the brows all day long without any fading or smudging. However, due to the cost and my experiences with both products, I will most likely repurchase the L'oreal Brow Stylist Definer over the Anastasia Brow Wiz because it is just more economically friendly.

If you have been wanting the try the Brow Wiz but can not dream of spending $21.00 for a brow pencil, then the +L'OrĂ©al Brow Stylist Definer is a great alternative!

Happy Wandering! Alice
